Comments: I've had this car for a couple months and I hooked up dual servos, and have not had a problem with it but really do not like the fact that everything is plastic

Comments: Strips the gears almost instantly but you can replace the gears in it with the gears kit for the 2080x gears using kit TRX2082X

    Application(s): 1/16 e-revo

Comments: Mine has handle bashing after bashing after bashing and never skipped a beat. It's important to properly calibrate your setup though to make sure you aren't trying drive it past its limits, etc. That will cause failures.

    Application(s): Traxxas E-Revo VXL 1:16

Comments: Removed it after few days due to broken gear parts as many others did. This Servo is intended to break. Not a question "if", but only "when".
    Replaced it with Savox SW-0250MG.

    Application(s): 1/16 E revo

Comments: Servo is junk replaced 4 of these an some lasted less than a min run time on the road. Traxxas should be a shamed of there selfs. My boy doesn't want anything to do with his 1/16 revo anymore since it brakes in minutes after it's supposed to be fixed

    Replacement gears cost $5.
buying a Savox SW-0250MG as replacement as recommended in many forums.

  • Worse servo

    January 29, 2017

    Application(s): steering

Comments: End points or not. This servos is a horrible choice for a steering servo. It has plastic gears that stripped on my first battery. I replaced with a futaba s3102. Metal gears, and great torque. Have not had a problem since.

  • Duc

    November 14, 2016

Application(s): Traxxas Summit 1/16 Found out that if you strip one of the gears that have full teeth you can open it and use the opposite side of the gear since it technically uses only half of turning range successfully fixed 2 in the last month!

    Comments: Very weak and frail!

    April 16, 2016

    Application(s): Traxxas 1/16 scale

Comments: I think this wins for the worst servo I have ever seen for its intended purpose. I have 6 of them, I have never driven for 10 minutes straight without having one start to grind its gears. Traxxas should seriously be ashamed of themselves for using this as a steering servo. This kind of thing is why some people hate the brand.

    Application(s): 1/16 E revo

Comments: I too had a problem with my first servo how ever I bought replacement gears and a second servo to servos compared to one they handle a beating fairly well one servo is to weak to take a hit from one or the other tire but two servos handle it as if there was nothing bothering it

    Application(s): Mini ERevo

Comments: i never had a problem i can believe everyone has this servo problem i had my mini erevo for 5 years and never had to replace a servo yet i just did a a overhaul on the truck and still never had a problem and even had ahead on crash with a 1/10 slash and servo is still fine so i think it is everyone that is driving the truck are you setting you end points for the steering if the answer is no than servo is going to fail it a ready to run but you still need to set the end points and trim to get the most out of you truck i just think there is too many stupid people that give this servo a bad name because don't read the manual and they don't know how to set up there truck the right way

    December 29, 2013

Application(s): I actually cannot believe how bad.

Comments: Recently bought two 1/16 E-REVO VXLs for Christmas. One of the servos was completely dead out of the box. Took it back to the shop I bought it at and they were gracious enough to replace it with another stock. The second Merv got about 15 minutes of run time before the servo was destroyed. And then! The replaced servo got a whopping total of 10 minutes of light run time around the back yard before it was done for as well. The F? So furious. Going with a couple Hitecs hoping they will stand up. Unbelievable.

    Application(s): MERV, Rally. Slash

Comments: I keep a zip-lock bag that says "Bad" on it. It now has 4 2080s in it and that's only since I decided to keep them. (I keep expecting Traxxas to admit their failure and offer to replace them -- yeah right!). I'm not that rough -- never stripped a gear, but I expect the electronics to fail on a regular basis. I keep several backups that I buy when I find one cheap on eBay. I have used the Hitec replacements. No problems, just a little more hassle to install.

My son is a careful driver and the gears have not stripped for us, but the electronics fail.

    Application(s): Traxxas RTR 1/16 Summit VXL Brushless 4WD 2.4GHz

Comments: Unpacked car and charged stock battery. While running on first battery in living room in training mode the car suddenly began making a grinding noise when I turned left only. After checking all of the forums, I found that the servo is failing an awful lot on these Traxxas 1/16 RC cars. I will be purchasing a different brand of servo after my warranty is up. The 2080 servo is a piece of junk and apparantly Traxxas is not doing anything about it.

Comments: If you want a good MONEY PIT this is it, Had the E-Revo 7 days and have had to make 4 trips the the hobby shop to get parts.
I should have just went to the hobby shop and built the E-Revo from the ground up, I think it would of been cheaper to do so now that I'm there every other day to fix Traxxas Mistakes

Comments: After 8-10 packs, one of the gears stripped. I replaced the gear. Then after 3-5 packs, the servo just died. Will not recommend. A great replacement could be the Turnigy TGY-390DMH!

    Application(s): e-revo 1/16

Comments: Burnt after some hours of bashing. Opened the case and some smd components were toasted. This servo is a hoax. e-revo 1/16 has two more crappy parts: xl2.5 ESC burns easyly and shocks bottom caps leak a lot.

    June 23, 2012

    Application(s): 1/16 slash brushed

Comments: Pretty fast, but strips gears easily. Stock servo saver way to stiff so no servo protection. Had one burn it's electonics after like 20 short runs. Also 2 stripped gears one after another.

Not for offroad use, onroad only with good saver.

    Application(s): 1/16 grave digger

Comments: i ran the truck for about 3 battery packs, did a few speed runs, a back-flip or two and the gears are shredded down to dust, called traxxas and they are sending me a servo for free, next time this happens im switching to metal geared servos.

  • Mpwr99

    April 23, 2012

    Application(s): Slash 1/16

Comments: This servo sucks!! Used truck 4 times out of the box and servo took a crap. Gears shredded and internally shorted causing esc to do erratic behavior! Traxass needs to step up and put a better servo for a truck that's $300 bucks!

  • John

    April 9, 2012

Application(s): Stock servo in 1/16th VXL Slash

Comments: This servo is every bit as bad as everything you've read about it. I bought a 1/16th VXL Slash and a friend told me the servo will probably let go within a week. 1.5 packs later, he was right. Currently shopping for a new servo. Only way I'd replace with this is if it was free.

  • Alexander

    March 28, 2012

    Application(s): Traxxas 1/16 SUMMIT VXL (#7207)

Comments: I have similar troubles with the servo. The plastic gears were broken after 15 minutes of driving on the smooth road. I changed the position of gears (rotated by 180 degrees), and after that used my vehicle 3 times (3 cycles for the battery.) After that, gears have disintegrated completely; servo rotated for quite a long time; and my vehicle was no longer operational. If I now rotate resistor in the servo in one direction, the servo-motor rotates and the vehicle rides. If I rotate the resistor in servo in another direction, the receiver LED blinks, and the vehicle do not work at all.
I would not purchase the same servo any more. Can somebody suggest another servo with similar characteristics?

  • Mao

    March 14, 2012

    Application(s): 1/16 Summit

Comments: Failed within the first hour of using the truck. Seems to be an issue with the motor or pot, it was causing my ESC to behave erratically, eventually causing transmission gears to get shredded. I thought the problem was a short on the ESC, but after Traxxas kindly replaced my motor and ESC I still had the same problem. Finally traced it back to this servo.
After reading these reviews, don't think I'll bother with an exact replacement. Thanks!

    Application(s): Mini e revo steering

Comments: Broke after a pack and a half on the new stock truck. No crazy driving - a few roll overs during runs up and down the street - and the gears are stripped. A pretty cheap and easy fix but should NOT strip this easily.

    Application(s): 1/16 summit steering

Comments: I downgraded the summit 1/16 to a four cell battery for my kid. Can't remember a serious hit, but still the servo gear was broken in the first half an hour of driving the brand new downtuned car. My dealer said: No warranty replacement by Traxxas

Application(s): Stock in traxxas 1/16 Fiesta VXL Ken Block

Comments: really weak. The electronics failed after less than 3 hours of use. I´m looking for a more robust replacement. Traxxas should do some service campaign on this item.

I live in Argentina and it cost usd 47. A better replacemet costs even more.

Application(s): stock servo on 1/16 traxxas.

  • Molak

    July 31, 2011

Application(s): Stock Steering servo on all 1/16 traxxas models

Comments: This servo to fragile for the job.

The plastic gears are far to weak, even with a properly working servo-saver they shatter with a minimum hit.

And when you don't break the gears the electronics burn or the motor overheats and get burned.

The only reason you should be looking at this servo is to find a replacement...
