April 15, 2016Application(s): 4m Scale glider - Ailerons and Flaps
Comments: Bought 4 of these to fit in a 4m scale glider, they are very strong for their size/weight but they are not reliable:
2 failed through stripped gears - On the Output shaft there is a large gear with a "knob" under it that acts as a stopper to limit the rotation. However, this stopper damages a large plastic gear on the middle shaft when the servo rotates to max limits.
The other 2 failed through stalling - At max travel, the servo can stall itself. You can repeat this by hand - rotate the servo to max travel and you will "feel" significant resistance before it starts to move off the stopper.
the full metal gear internals from the SH-0255mg can be swapped into the sh-0256 housing - problem solved but expensive!
