Notes
- The discontinued Blue Bird BMS-385DMAX is an elite-level servo that represents a convergence of all the most desirable performance technologies in a sub-micro package. The name itself tells the story: it is a Digital (D) servo for precision, it likely features a powerful coreless motor for MAXimum performance, and it is housed in the powerful 38x-series form factor. This servo is aimed at top-level competition pilots and hardcore enthusiasts who demand the absolute best. It is a premier choice for the cyclic and tail on a highly-tuned 450-class helicopter, or for the flight controls on a no-holds-barred, high-speed pylon racer or 3D aircraft.
- The essence of the BMS-385DMAX is its uncompromising, all-out performance. The digital controller provides a lightning-fast response and incredible holding power. The coreless motor ensures that this response is delivered with blistering speed and smoothness. The internal components, including the gear train and bearings, are all built to the highest specifications to handle the incredible forces generated by the motor. This servo provides a level of control that is almost telepathic, allowing the pilot to feel a perfect, one-to-one connection with their machine. It’s a component that can genuinely elevate a pilot's ability to perform at their best.
- In the most demanding fields of robotics, the BMS-385DMAX is a specialized, high-end tool. Its incredible speed and precision would make it suitable for research in areas like flapping-wing micro air vehicles (ornithopters) or high-speed robotic manipulation. In a competitive setting, it offers the raw performance needed to gain a critical edge, whether in a high-speed autonomous racing drone or a lightning-fast robotic arm. It's the actuator to choose when the project budget allows for the best and the performance requirements are extreme.

Rating:
Application(s): Tricopter-Baby (RCexplorer)
Comments: Added a feedback wire to the potentiometer and connected it to the RSSI input of the Flight Controller. It's speed and torque is very good but unfortunately it flutters badly no matter the tune or additional hardware used. Should be fine for larger copters but another under 200 mm motor to motor spacing should look elsewhere.

Application(s): 48" 3D, 60" sloper
Comments: These are excellent servos. I've had a pair on a NCFM M60 slope flyer which I've had in the air for 62 hours now. I spite of rough conditions (sand, rain, hard landings) these servos function flawlessly.

Application(s): Rudder, ailerons & elevator for a RC airplane
Comments: These servos were found to flutter wildly about center when used with a Spektrum transmitter (DX7) and Spektrum receivers (AR6110e park flyer and AR500 full range). Power supplies were DC battery, Phoenix 35 ESC, and Turnigy 60 ESC. No combination of the above had any effect on moderating this behaviour. Release of a fully deflected elevator caused fluttering of not only the elevator but the rudder, as well. This model had never been flown. The motor was not running in these test. Replacement of these BMS-385DMAX servos by HiTec & Hobbico digital servos eliminated the problem. Neither Blue Bird models nor BPHobbies would respond to my complaints.

Rating:
Application(s): Installed 4 into a PA Extra MX, one on each control surface.
Comments: The servos are excellent. Very strong, very fast and perfect centering! The digital "whine" may be a little loud, but the performance more than makes up for it. I have flown with them for a few months with no problems at all. Recommended!
